How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages of your project?

I must say that the most influencial use of new technology would have to be the internet. The use of the internet has made it alot simpler to access artists music and videos. We used the internet to research our target audience and also into the fan base. We were able to watch videos and upload them to our blogs from youtube which makes life alot easier. Because web 2.0 is interactive it has turned the internet into one big social chat room. People are able to comment and post feedback underneath videos and let them know what they think. The internet was also great for learning about different shot types. We were able to produce screen shots from youtube to help us learn what different shots were and then upload them to our blog. It also made me notice different lighting techniques that were used when shots were frozen and also the use of mis en scene. I also looked at what shot types worked together and what did not.

To produce our music video we used imovie. This is great for beginners as neither me or my partner had used editing software before. We filmed the whole of our video on a digital camera and then edited it all together on imovie. We then synced the footage to the track and then had a finished video.
We used photoshop to produce our ancilary tasks and used an SLR camera to take the photographs used. I used alot of masks on photoshop but stuck with simple backgrounds so that the images i had taken stood out on top. I think this worked very well and was simple yet effective.
Another great use of technology was blogger itself. I have used this site to upload all of my findings stage by stage throughout the project. It is simple to use and is accessable from anywhere at any time, even on a mobile phone.

evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Comparing our music video to the official video there are not many similarities. To name a few the mis en scene (costumes) are kind of similar because both videos have an 'indie' style to them. Make up has been used very lightly in our video as opposed to the official video where thick make up has been used. We have also used various different shots to capture different angles of our actors. A good variation of quick moving shots is good because it keeps the audience engaged in what is going on on screen. Mid shot is the shot that has been used most along with close ups. When close ups have been used this is to draw attention to the direct address that has been used throughout most of the video. I think this works well in our video as it draws the attention of the audience to the eyes of the actor in shot. This also makes the audience more engaged with the narrative because it is directly addressing the audience on a personal level.

A development that we have introduced to the song is the narrative that we have in our video. In the official video there is no narrative on screen as she is just prancing around a stage singing the song. In our video there is also singing directly to the camera but this is mixed in with narrative of the actors 'canoodling' on screen. The video itself gives a subtle message of true love and how love is supposed to be. Our video doesnt show word for word what you see on screen. This would be very boring for the audience so this why we have included narrative.
In most indie/ 'alternative pop' videos there is a stereotypical love story that we see on screen but in our video we show a quirky side to love and the bits that ususally are not shown to viewers. Because the song that we have chosen is straight to the point and does not hold back in what it says we have shown that through our video. For example when the two actors are play fighting on the grass this challenges the codes and conventions of the genre.

Above is our poster and front cover for our ancillary tasks. We have definatley tried to use the conventions of the genre because on lily allens album cover she is dressed girly but with a quirky edge to her and this is what we have tried to achieve. We have also tried to keep it simple with not to much detail so that it is easy on the eyes for viewers. We have included our logo on every part of the ancillary task apart from the album cover because i dont think that it should be on there. The album cover itself is simple but effective and anything else on there would ruin its simplicity. I think that because we have used direct address in both our video and the ancillary tasks it works well together and draws in the attention of the audience. We have combined the use of two very contrasting fonts one being girly and intricate and the other being very bold and 'in your face'. We initially took this idea from Lily allens album because i think this is a great visual way to describe her quirky personality.

Filming

Today i am going to film a few scenes for my video. I will film a scene with my actor getting ready in a mirror, the whole song sang infront of a piano, also the full song infront of a plain backdrop. I am also going to film her walking down the road from behind and from infront.

Changing genre

I have had to change the genre of my music video due to being let down by the main singer in the video. I have now decieded to do 'Rhianna - Unfaithful' which is of the 'R'n'B' love song genre. I have found a person to star in my music video which means that now i can effectively plan the video.
